"An airy, gossamer fantasy breezily written, and in full fairy tale mode, Just the Way You Are deals with very universal issues — disabilities, self-esteem, unbridled love, selflessness, family angst — in a manner reminiscent of Grimm’s Fairy Tales and every Disney film based on classic children’s books. The contemporary setting juxtaposes with those timeless themes, with royal families in a feud that threatens the kingdom and the love affair between their prince and princess offspring. Hidden in a tower by her parents because of a disability that would deem her and their kingdom “weak” if discovered by the outside world, wheelchair bound Princess Misty finally escapes to explore and fulfill her dreams...The transformation of all the characters involved is the stuff of yummy fantasy, and the author deals with the subject of overcoming — indeed, triumphing over — physical limitations in a heartfelt and personal manner. Truly a story that youngsters will embrace, and one that parents will enjoy as well."
"Love the Way You Dance is the charming sequel to Allison M. Boot’s Just the Way You Are. This is a fun book, suitable for YA and teen readers (but also very enjoyable for adults!). It addresses emotional topics, including disability and foster care, but the fun and vibrant setting keeps the tone light and friendly. For me, this is a five-star book. I’m enjoying the series, and hope there’s more to come!"
"The Magic Within by Allison M. Boot is an tale that everyone needs to read, and to read to their love ones. It's rare to read a book where the [main character] has a physical disability. This book had a message and delivered it in a fun, emotional, magical way, to teach us that we are not as constrained as others may make you believe."
