A program for Dark Sky Week that explores the benefits of curbing light pollution.
Have you ever marveled at the wonder of the night sky on a completely dark night? It turns out that protecting our world from light pollution also has tremendous benefits for plants, wildlife, and human health. The Urbana Free Library is joining the First Annual Champaign County Dark Sky Week with a program that explores the many benefits of curbing light pollution. We'll even learn about ways to self-evaluate our own homes to make them safer and more energy efficient while lessening light pollution.
Guest speakers:
Julie Nieset, Wetland Plant Ecologist at the Illinois Natural History Survey
Dave Leake, retired director of the William Staerkel Planetarium and co-founder of the CU Astronomical Society
