Poet Ja Nelle Davenport reads from her newly released poetry collection
Join us for the book release party for poet Ja Nelle Davenport-Pleasure's newest book, Splitting 650. Ja Nelle says that the title has several hidden meanings: it can refer to personal freedom, and it can also be a sign of optimism, even in the most difficult times. "Through this book," she says, "you will walk beside me through some of my darkest relationships and brightest moments of discovery about myself." Ja Nelle will also share work from her first book of poetry, Eyes Open.
Ja Nelle Davenport-Pleasure is a multi-talented poet, dancer, recycled materials artist, fashion designer, and jewelry artist, as well as a dance teacher, spoken word performer, and community activist. In addition to Splitting 650 and Eyes Open, Ja Nelle's work also appears in the poetry book Crows on a Line. She uses her work to heal and inspire others, saying "I, like many, have been through so much this past year. The pandemic, personally a divorce, growing health scares, struggling mental health, raising teenagers solo, and trying to find personal freedom...Hopefully, through this book, this little light I have will shine brightly for all to see."
