Join CU Folk and Roots for an instrument petting zoo!
Join the Urbana Arts and Culture Program and The Urbana Free Library for the next installment of Young Artist's Studio! In this interactive lesson, young creatives will learn about a wide variety of folk music instruments through the CU Folk and Roots Festival's Instrument Petting Zoo. Youth will get a chance to pick up an instrument, learn how to hold it, find out what instrument family it belongs to, and learn the names of its different parts. This event is a pre-cursor to the upcoming 13th Annual CU Folk and Roots Festival which will be held October 21-23, 2021. Weather permitting, the CU Folk and Roots Festival's Instrument Petting Zoo will be held in Cherry Alley. In the case of inclement weather, the program will move indoors to the Lewis Auditorium.

Due to the pandemic, we ask participants to be patient with social distancing requirements you will encounter during the program. Masks for children ages 2 and up are required to attend this program.
The Young Artist's Studio is a series of art workshops sponsored by The Urbana Free Library and The Urbana Arts & Culture Program designed to offer youth an opportunity to explore the arts. All events in the series are free and open to the public. The series is designed for children ages 5 to 11 (7 and under with a caregiver.)
The Champaign-Urbana Folk and Roots Festival is a volunteer-run, grassroots festival that brings together national, regional and local artists and folk organizations for over 80 high-quality folk performances and participatory activities throughout downtown Urbana. The festival includes performances, dances, instructional sessions, jams, song-circles, family activities, storytelling, instrument-making and much, much more! The festival has a particular interest in evolving and unique forms of folk music and art, especially forms that break down barriers between audience and performers, while also providing the occasion to preserve local traditions and histories.
